Woman Bans Grandma For Life After Potty Training Joke

Woman Bans Grandma For Life After Potty Training Joke

March 12, 2020

The Bottom Line:

  • A woman shared on Reddit that her husband’s mother made crack while they were potty training their son
  • She joked about monsters popping out of the toilet, and the son has now refused to use the toilet again
  • The mom and dad were so mad they banned the grandma from ever seeing their kid again
  • Folks on the Internet thought the parents were overreacting, or there was more to the story than they were sharing

The Full Story:

Let’s face it, not everyone is going to find a joke funny, but one set of parents’ reaction to a grandma’s joke about potty training may be taking things a bit too far.

A woman shared on Reddit that her husband’s mother made crack while they were potty training their son and it seems to be having lasting consequences. As the mom was taking the child to the bathroom the grandma cracked, “Be careful, a monster might pop out of the toilet!” Well, that lead to the child crying and refusing to use the potty, which has set back their training, and they are livid. “My husband and I asked Grandma what the [redacted] she was thinking, and she only got defensive and insisted that it was just a joke,” the woman shares. “She refused to apologize. So we kicked her out of the house.”

But they didn’t just kick her out of the house. With the potty training “derailed” and the kid back in diapers the parents are at a loss. They apparently decided to punish grandma and they have banned her from ever seeing the child again. The grandmother is begging for forgiveness but the parents won’t budge, with the woman noting, “she isn’t welcome in our home anymore.”

  • As you can imagine, the Internet had some thoughts on this with most people suggesting that the parents are overeating, or that there’s more to the story than a simple potty joke gone awry.
  • “It’s obvious why she sucks. You suck because the ban is too long,” one person noted. “Ban her until Christmas or his potty trained, that will be a direct correlation to her offense.”
  • “The lifelong ban is extremely ridiculous,” another added. “Unless we are heavily missing some details about how the grandma is, like if she has done things like this before then this little incident is like dropping a bomb on a flower.”
  • Another person was shocked that the dad agreed since it was his mom. They wrote, “For the husband to have decided thathis own momshould never see his son again, I’m fairly certain that there’s more going on here thanjustthe potty-training thing.”
  • But not everyone ganged up on the OP. “I don’t think OP is taking it too far,” one person shared, “but mostly based on inferences that can be drawn from details of the story rather than the story itself.”

Thought Starters

  • Banned for life over a potty training joke? These are awful parents

  • How do you think you would have reacted to the grandma? What do you think would be an appropriate punishment?
  • How hard was it to potty train your child? How long did it take?
