At Least EF-4 Tornado Hit Alabama

National Weather Service Confirms At Least EF-4 Tornado Hit Alabama

The National Weather Service says the damage from Sunday's tornadoes in eastern Alabama indicates that there was a tornado of at least EF-4 in strength. In other words, it could have produced winds at least 170 miles-per-hour.

And while the death toll still remains at 23, officials believe that number could rise since there are still a number of people missing. Either way, this storm brought the highest tornado death toll in the United States since 2013 – and in this case? At least three children – age 6, 9 and 10 – were among the confirmed victims.

As for what happens next, President Trump says America's heart goes out to those affected. In a White House photo-op yesterday, Trump said the U.S. government “has their backs.” In a tweet, Trump also said he has directed FEMA "to give Alabama A-Plus treatment."
