Desoto County just ordered evacs for zones A & B + mobile/manufactured homes. They're very concerned about river flooding after the storm. 10:15 am 10/8/2024

𝐒𝐡𝐞𝐥𝐭𝐞𝐫 𝐈𝐧𝐟𝐨𝐫𝐦𝐚𝐭𝐢𝐨𝐧:

Opening Tuesday, 10/8/24, starting at 12 PM Noon. The location for the Special Needs Shelter is South Florida State College at 2251 NE Turner Ave #2700, Arcadia, FL 34266, and the General Population Shelter will be at the Turner Center: 2250 NE Roan St, Arcadia, FL 34266.

If you or someone you love is electrically dependent, please register for the special needs shelter ASAP at snr.flhealthresponse.com or in person at 2200 NE Roan St, Arcadia, FL 34266.

If you plan to utilize a shelter, be prepared! Here’s what to bring:

– Your full emergency supply kit

– Any necessary medical supplies

– Special dietary items

– ID or passport

– Comfort items like pillows, blankets, or bed rolls

– Pack some items to help pass the time, such as playing cards, board games, or laptops for movies.

           - Hurricane force winds of 74+ mph

- 2 to 6 inches of rain (estimate has come down, although isolated areas could receive considerably more)

- 6 - 10 feet of storm surge (above dry ground)

- Possibility of isolated tornadoes

- Electricity outages

- We are still in the “cone” so we have to be aware landfall could be closer to us or farther away than originally thought

Charlotte County has declared a Local State Of Emergency, as well as…

-        Evacuations ordered for Zones A & B, mobile homes

-   Shelters to be opened: DO NOT head to these locations until officials tell us they’re open!   Kingsway Elementary School, 23300 Quasar Blvd., in Port Charlotte…Liberty Elementary School, 370 Atwater St., in Port Charlotte…Neil Armstrong Elementary School, 22100 Breezeswept Ave., in Port Charlotte…all are “pet friendly”

-   Schools closed through Thursday

-        Government offices closed, Transportation services suspended

-        Curbside solid waste pickup will occur as scheduled today (Tues) in Charlotte and Desoto Counties

-   Landfill and transfer facilities will be open today (it’s recommended to take any left-over Helene curbside debris to the landfill TODAY so it doesn’t become air or waterborne debris during the storm)
