The Full Story:
Yesterday, history was made as Joe Biden was sworn in as President of the United States alongside the country’s first female, Black and South Asian Vice President, Kamala Harris.
There were plenty of notable moments, some that could only happen in our current pandemic era like all the fist bumps and elbow taps exchanged between politicians. Lady Gaga and Jennifer Lopez performed, Kamala wore purple as a nod to the first Black woman elected to Congress Shirley Chrisholm, and the Internet absolutely exploded with hilarious Bernie Sanders memes after he sat in the audience looking chilly in a coat and gloves (you can check out some of the memes below).
Celebrities were among those watching the inauguration and sharing their reactions on social media… here’s what they had to say:
- Mindy Kaling watched the big event with her three-year-old daughter Kit, gushing about the “best compliment” she’s ever gotten – her daughter saying Kamala looks “just like mommy.”
- Rosario Dawson and Cory Booker were at the inauguration in person, where they wore matching blue masks from Dawson’s sustainable fashion brand Studio 189.
- Andy Cohen watched “the future” unfold with his two-year-old Benjamin, sharing the moment on Instagram.
- Chrissy Teigen learned that she’s one of just a handful accounts followed by the new POTUS. She asked Biden if he’d give her a follow since she’s been “blocked by the president for four years” – and he did!
