Joseph R. Biden will be inaugurated as the nation's 46th president today. Biden will be sworn-in on the west front of the U.S. Capitol at Noon, Eastern. Vice President-elect Kamala [[COMMA-lah]] Harris will also take the oath of office.

While the National Mall usually attracts large crowds on Inauguration Day but will be mostly empty due to tight security and coronavirus restrictions – about two-thousand are expected in all. Among them? Former Presidents Barack Obama, George W. Bush and Bill Clinton are expected to attend the Inauguration, along with outgoing VP Mike Pence.

President Trump is the first President in more than 150 years to decline the invitation to attend the inauguration. But unity will still be on display this morning as Mr. Biden is expected to attend church services in Washington, DC. He'll be accompanied by House Speaker Nancy Pelosi and Senate Minority Leader Chuck Schumer as well as Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell and House Minority Leader Kevin McCarthy.

  • What comes next? Mr. Biden has an aggressive agenda focused on Covid relief, vaccination access, immigration reform, reversing a number of Trump policies (such as the exit from the Paris Accords) and a new tax plan that would require people to pay a 12.4% Social Security payroll tax if they make more than $400-thousand a year. The The current tax rate for social security is 6.2% for the employer and 6.2% for the employee, or 12.4% total
  • Something Stevie Wonder wants? He’s hoping that the Biden Administration will create a national truth commission to investigate inequality. The artist posted a video to his Twitter page Monday on Martin Luther King Jr. Day bemoaning the lack of progress in racial equity. He says the answer is to establish a commission forcing "this country to look at its lies" and demand accountability from government officials. Wonder says, "Without accountability, we cannot have forgiveness. Without forgiveness, we cannot heal."
  • ONE MORE THING! Inauguration Day has a much different look and feel this time around, for various reasons. One of the things that will be different this year is the addition of a special Inauguration Day program designed for kids. The event will be hosted by singer Keke Palmer and will feature the incoming First Lady, Dr. Jill Biden, who calls inaugurations "one of the most important American traditions." “Our White House: An Inaugural Celebration for Young Americans” will be livestreamed starting at 10am Eastern at Bideninaugural.org/youth.
