At last check, some 75-million Americans are now being told to stay at home to prevent the spread of the coronavirus. While many are listening, a number are not – because for many, the question is: how long? Our country’s leading expert on infectious diseases says Americans will likely need to stay home for several more weeks.

Dr.Anthony Fauci[[FOW-chee]] of the National Institute of Allergy and Infectious Diseases says that if you look at "the curves of outbreaks," Americans will have to practice social distancing for at least several weeks. "I cannot see that all of a sudden, next week or two weeks from now it's going to be over,” he notes. “I don't think there's a chance of that."

Still, Fauci tells CBS’ “Face The Nation” that he doesn't believe the U.S. will have the same coronavirus trajectory as Italy. For one, Italy didn’t take steps to keep infections out. "We're gonna get hit, there's no doubt about it."

  • Taking to the podium yesterday,President Trumpannounced that he's issued ordered that allows the federal government to pay for the National Guard in states like New York, California and Washington State. Trump said the federal government has already sent critical medical equipment to those states, including respirators and masks. He's also ordered the creation of federal medical stations with thousands of beds to New York, California and Washington State.
  • ONE MORE THING!Something else added to the American arsenal in dealing with the coronavirus? A new test that’s expected to start shipping next week. As opposed to the two-days or longer it’s been taking to get results, a new kit from the California-based molecular diagnostics company Cepheid is promising results in just 45-minutes. The test will be used primarily in hospitals and emergency rooms.
  • Where does the United States stand with COVID-19?At last check, there are just over 35-thousand cases across the United States – with nearly 500 patients succumbing to the illness. Globally, the numbers stand at nearly 400-thousand people infected by the virus – with just over 14-thousand dead. On the plus side, nearly 100-thousand have recovered (up from the 80-thousand reported last week).
