MAN UNLOCKS CELLPHONE WITH SEVERED THUMB

In Berezino, Belarus, a man named Yuri Vinogradov lost a thumb in a power saw accident three months ago. Since that time he has stored the severed thumb in his freezer (* You never know when you might want a snack!). The 53-year-old had hoped it might be sewed back on, but due to his age and the fact he has diabetes, doctors advised against this. Meanwhile, though, Yuri decided to see if it could still be used to unlock his cellphone using the fingerprint sensor. His initial attempt to unlock the device with the frozen thumb proved unsuccessful, so he thawed the thumb in warm water, which worked – the thumbprint unlocked the phone. It also scrolls the screen and opened apps. Tech experts and phone makers have been claiming it isn’t possible to unlock a smartphone with a severed digit because an electrical circuit was required to unlock the phone. With an influx of new technology, this obviously is no longer the case.

* Plus, Yuri had a nice hot bowl of soup waiting when he was done.

* I’ve seen this in at least seven action movies, but the thumb was always chopped off of some other guy.

* This is nice. He’ll be able to use his phone until the dead thumb gets all black and gooey.

* You go ahead and use your fingerprints, and the computer chip embedded in your hand, and your retina scan. I’ll just keep using my keys, thank you
