The latest College Football Playoff rankings are out, and 12th-ranked Miami is currently out of the action.
The Canes will be idle this weekend and will likely be bumped following conference championship results for #17 Virginia and 20th-ranked Tulane in the projected 12-team bracket.
However, the Canes are still in the conversation to make the playoffs as an at-large team since they were unable to qualify for the ACC championship game on Dec. 6 in Charlotte.
So how do they jump from #12 to #10 and make the playoff with no more games to play?
Well, #10 Alabama could lose to # 4 Georgia in the SEC title game. Bama has already beaten the Dawgs in the regular season.
And #11 BYU gets a rematch with No. 5 Texas Tech in the Big 12 title game. Miami could jump past BYU or Bama if either team gets blown out or suffers a catastrophic injury in those conference title games.
Based on social media reaction and the math, Notre Dame's at-large bid should go to Miami. While both teams are 10-2 this season, it's worth noting the Hurricanes have the head-to-head advantage.
Ohio State remains the number one team in the nation. Indiana is still second while Georgia, Texas Tech, Oregon and Ole Miss all moved up one spot to round out three-through-six. Texas A-and-M slipped four spots to seventh. The Buckeyes, Hoosiers, Bulldogs and Red Raiders would get first-round byes if the rankings hold.
