Federal prosecutors submitted a pretrial detention pleading that includes a letter they say Ryan Routh wrote admitting to the assassination attempt against Donald Trump.

Former state and federal prosecutor, attorney David Weinstein, says the letter filed with today's pleading for pretrial detention is damning and will likely spark additional federal charges against Routh.

In the letter, Routh wrote he was "free to assassinate Trump" to correct the "error in judgement" of having voted him into office.

“This was an assassination attempt on Donald Trump, but I failed you. I tried my best and gave it all the gumption I could muster. It is up to you now to finish the job; and I will offer $150,000 to whomever can complete the job.”

Weinstein says the letter will allow prosecutors to most likely upgrade the gun charges already filed against Routh.

Currently, the 58-year-old suspect is charged with possession of a firearm by a convicted felon and possession of a firearm with an obliterated serial number.
