(Sunny Isles Beach, Fla.) -- Sunny Isles police have apprehended about half the 15-20 migrants who came ashore this morning. Sgt. Brian Schnell says they were smuggled aboard a white cigarette boat that took off after reaching shore.

Currently about nine are in custody and being evaluated medically according to Sgt. Schnell. Eventually those who were apprehended will be turned over to Customs and Border Patrol.

Sgt. Schnell says at this time the suspected migrants' country of origin is unknown but Chief Patrol Agent Walter Slosar reports four Chinese migrants were encountered.
