Governor Not Worried About Travel Advisory To Florida Over Race Tensions

The Florida State Chapter of the NAACP is asking the group's National Board to issue a travel advisory against visiting the Sunshine State- especially for people of color- because of recent legislation in Tallahassee related to race and diversity. Governor Ron DeSantis says he doubts it'll be very effective.

"During COVID these people would be on CNN, all this stuff, slamming Florida, saying we were so bad, don't go to Florida," Governor DeSantis said, "and then they would end up being spotted on the beach somewhere, vacationing in Florida, so this is just ridiculous."

The state NAACP also expressed concern about a proposed 6-week abortion ban and bills that would place restrictions on the use of preferred pronouns at school.

Governor DeSantis was at Ridgeview High School in Orange Park Thursday announcing that the first 4,500 teachers have completed the Civics Education Seal of Excellence endorsement course and will receive $3,000 bonuses. Enrollment for the course, launched in January, is at capacity with 20,000 teachers and an additional 14,000 teachers on the waiting list.

"The U.S. has had a civics education crisis for many years," the governor said, "so Florida has stepped up for our students."
