Students at Florida Atlantic University in Boca Raton plan to rally against a bill making its way through Tallahassee that would remove diversity-equity-and inclusion programs from public colleges and universities in Florida.

The FAU students will be holding a "Free Minds Equals Free Country" protest at Noon Wednesday on campus.

HB 999 was voted on favorably by a subcommittee earlier this week and a companion bill in the Senate is being debated Wednesday in a committee in that chamber.

Organizers of the rally say the legislation targets people of color and the LGBTQ community, but supporters of the bill say DEI is about "woke ideology" and should not be paid for with taxpayer funds.
