Democrats Want Rent Relief Tacked on to Special Session

A group of Florida Democrats is asking Gov. DeSantis to expand next month's special session on property insurance to include relief for renters.

Rep. Anna Eskamani of Orlando says she and her colleagues are open to any proposals from legislative leaders that could lower costs for those struggling to afford a roof over their heads.

During the regular session, Sen. Jeff Brandes (R-Pinellas) pushed hard for his colleagues to address a rising property insurance crisis, with rates rising exponentially over the past year, but nothing was passed.

Gov. DeSantis called the session to begin May 23.
