Good samaritan, teen dead after car crashes into South Florida canal

A Good Samaritan is dead after coming to the aid of an 18-year-old who crashed their car into a South Florida canal on Tuesday. 

The accident happened at the Residence of Sawgrass Mills neighborhood in Sunrise around 11 p.m. Tuesday.

According to police, the 18-year-old driver was lost in the neighborhood, made a wrong turn, and crashed into the canal.

A 17-year-old who witnessed the accident jumped into the water to attempt to rescue the driver, but he too went underwater with the vehicle.

Neither the driver nor the Good Samaritan resurfaced following the attempted rescue.

First responders rescued the 17-year-old from the water and gave him CPR at the scene.

The teen was rushed to Broward Health Medical Center where he was pronounced dead.

The driver was pronounced dead at the scene.

Officials haven't released the identities of either teen.

Police are continuing their investigation into Tuesday’s drownings.
