LISTEN: Florida Poll Finds Support for Governor and Ukraine

TAMPA -- A new poll finds most Floridians support doing more to help Ukraine.

The University of South Florida School of Public Affairs surveyed 600 Floridians in early April. USF found that most Floridians are paying attention to the war in Ukraine. 45 percent say the US hasn't been aggressive enough, while 34 percent say that sanctions against Russia are appropriate. Nearly three out of four want the US to send more military aid to Ukraine. 86 percent say it's important for Florida to divest itself of $300 million worth of investments linked to Russian businesses.

The University of South Florida College of Public Affairs poll finds more than three out of four Floridians want to increase military aid to help Ukraine fight off the Russian invasion. Pollster Stephen Neely says they also want state government to take action. 86 percent want the state to divest $300 million in investments tied to Russian businesses,

The poll finds 56 percent of Floridians support Governor DeSantis' performance on jobs and the economy. About half support his performance on COVID-19. DeSantis' lowest performance is on climate change, with about 42 percent support.

DeSantis' position among Floridians is much stronger than President Biden, who enjoys majority support (52%) in only one area: his handling of the pandemic. That doesn't help him much, accrording to pollsters Stephen Neely and Christina Stevens, as Floridians have pivoted from COVID-19 as the top issue last fall to the economy as top issue this year.

The survey also finds that 70 percent of Floridians believe the worst of the COVID pandemic is behind us.
