Sea turtle nesting season gets back underway on Florida's east coast beaches Tuesday.
Sarah Hirsch with Loggerhead Marinelife Center in Juno Beach says artificial lighting can cause turtles to get disoriented, so she has this request of beachfront residents.
"We do ask that people keep the beaches dark for sea turtles. That means turning off all your lights that are on the coast."
Interior lights should also be shielded from the beach through curtains, shades or tinting.
Because turtles and hatclings use natural light from the moon and stars to find the water, artificial lighting can cause them to become disoriented.
Hirsch also asks beachgoers to fill in any holes that have been dug and knock down sand castles while nesting season is underway through October.
