PASCO COUNTY -- An Anclote High teacher, crushed in an accident in the school parking lot, has died.
The Pasco School District says 28-year-old Ciara McKeon died from the injuries she suffered in the crash just before sunrise Thursday morning. Officials spoke with her family before publicly announcing her death.
McKeon, who attended State University of New York at Brockport, taught physical education at Anclote High School for two years and was the girls' tennis coach. Principal Vanessa Moon urged parents and students to remember McKeon's "positive outlook" and "smiling face", and the impact she has had on students.
According to a district news release, the school district Crisis Team has been at Anclote High for the past two days to support students and staff cope with the tragedy. They will be back on campus on Monday.
Parents and others plan to bring flowers and cards Saturday morning to the Anclote High sign on campus.
The Florida Highway Patrol is still investigating the accident, which involved a 24-year-old male driver in the SUV.
