As Florida lawmakers begin their second week of the Legislative Session, State Representative Mike Caruso hopes one of his bills will make it to its second committee.

The Delray Beach Republican from Florida House District 89 says HB-479 will continue to "clean up" the state's sober home industry.

"It continues the work that we've done in the past by providing additional standards for those serving individuals in recovery."

The bill would require applicants for substance abuse licenses to provide more information to DCF regarding these transitional facilities where patients will be sent and further limits the number of residents allowed to be treated at a sober home.

"We want to make sure that we know where these sober homes are."

Caruso says it would require the caregiver to provide the address of the facility where they plan to send the patients.

The bill was passed unanimously out of the Children, Families and Seniors Subcommittee last week and now waits to be heard in the Health Care Appropriations Subcommittee.

Senator Gayle Harrel, a Republican from Stuart, is sponsoring the companion bill.
