A group of parents have filed a federal lawsuit against the Palm Beach County School Board over its mask mandate.

Attorneys with the Florida Civil Rights Coalition are representing the parents of eight kids who had initially brought in notes from their parents that they were opting out of the mask mandate.

Those notes no longer count, as the school district allows only medical opt-outs.

The suit claims masks in school are not supported by science and that school leaders are violating the rights of parents.

Those named in the suit include Superintendent Michael Burke and School Board Chairman Frank Barbieri.

Palm Beach and several other school districts around the state face funding cuts by the state while the governor appeals a judge's ruling that its ban on restrictive mandates is an overreach.
