Governor DeSantis boosts funding for civics education in Florida.

The teaching of civics in Florida was the subject of an appearance Tuesday at the BridgePrep Academy of Orange in Orlando by Governor Ron DeSantis.

"Today I'm proud to announce that the state of Florida will be dedicating an additional $106 million towards civics education in the state of Florida," Governor DeSantis said.

The additional funding gives teachers a chance to receive a bonus.

"A new professional credential for educators in civics education. Every teacher who completes the training and earns the Civics Seal of Excellence will receive a $3,000 bonus."

Governor DeSantis says the goal is to give students a strong foundation so they can go out, "pursue their dreams but do so understanding the foundations that makes America what it is and understanding what they'll be called on to do when they're citizens of this Republic."

Every Florida teacher is eligible to earn the Civics Seal of Excellence- not just those who teach civics.
