Health officials are optimistic about the COVID-19 pandemic.

Palm Beach County's health director told county commissioners Tuesday that the level of transmission has dropped from "substantial" to "moderate," which is the step before "low."

Dr. Alina Alonso with the Florida Dept. Of Health says she'll be watching things closely after upcoming holidays like July 4th.

"I expect that we'll see small increases, like little bumps along the road, but not sustained curve going straight up because of the vaccinations and what a great job we have been doing with the vaccines across the entire state of Florida."

Thus far, there has been no apparent spike stemming from Memorial Day gatherings.

58 percent of Palm Beach County's population have received at least one dose.
