Last Call For Alcohol Could Be Coming Earlier In Miami Beach

Miami Beach could be moving up its last call for alcohol. Commissioners are sounding off on the mayor's 12-point plan to overhaul the rowdy district with a 2nd hearing and vote to end alcohol sales at 2 a.m. instead of the current 5 a.m. This issue has come up several times before and failed but Mayor Dan Gelber says this vote is different, people want to see the area transformed from a party destination into an high end arts and cultural hub. Commissioners are also discussing adding a code enforcement unit specifically for South Beach and the elimination of noise exemptions for the blocks between 9th and 11th Streets.
