PLANT CITY -- A teacher at Burney Elementary School is facing charges in the death of a child in September. '
The Hillsborough Sheriff says 23-year-old Yesica Boxtha feel asleep while the child was left alone in a bathtub at a Plant City home September 5. She awoke and found the child unresponsive. The child later died at a Plant City hospital.
The Medical Examiner ruled the cause of death was drowning and Boxtha was the only other person in the home.
She faces a charge of manslaughter. "My heart grieves for this child, whose life was cut far too short as a result of this negligence."
The Sheriff's Office didn't release any information on the child's age or relationship to Boxtha, citing Marsy's Law.
