Some Florida Veterans Are Being Offered The COVID-19 Vaccine

Some Florida veterans are being offered the coronavirus vaccine.

Kenita Tills, spokeswoman for the West Palm Beach VA Medical Center, says the starting age of those eligible is a bit older than what the state is doing.

"Our CDC and VHA guidelines basically state that we are to prioritize enrolled veterans that are 75 and older right now."

She says veterans 74 and younger are welcome to get their shot elsewhere, but asks them to tell their doctor.

In addition, she says the Veterans Health Administration is inoculating veterans who are in dialysis, transplant or chemotherapy patients and homeless veterans.

The West Palm Beach facility is accepting walk-ins for those who qualify at the Covid Vaccine Clinic in Building 14, which is next to the Domiciliary near the Military Trail entrance of the Medical Center property.

The walk-ins will be taken Monday through Friday, 3 p.m. to 6 p.m. and Saturday and Sunday 7 a.m. to 3 p.m.

The VA gets its doses directly from the Veterans Health Administration, but like those being administered by the state and county, supplies are limited. Tills says they are giving out around 500 shots per day right now, with a goal of reaching 1,000.

The West Palm Beach VA serves 16,000 veterans ages 75 and older.
