Sheriff's Son John Snyder Vs. Elisa Edwards Ackerly In State House Race

In our Election Spotlight, brought to you by Air Around the Clock, the race for an open Florida House seat.

In District 82, Republican State Representative MaryLynn Magar is termed out. A Democrat is hoping to take that seat, in a Republican-heavy district, that covers portions of northern Palm Beach County, as well as Martin and St. Lucie.

Unlike most of the Democrat candidates we've spoken with, Elisa Edwards Ackerly is a supporter of brick-and-mortar classrooms. Her son goes to the private Benjamin School, in a physical classroom.

"We all have to do what is right for each of our families."

She also calls herself a "pro-gun Democrat." Ackerly touts the endorsement of Florida Agriculture Commissioner Nikki Fried.

"I was very humbled. All of this environmental work that I've been doing has actually been noticed."

She volunteered on the Martin County Soil and Water Conservation District Board.

Republican John Snyder says he also understands the importance of protecting the agricultural areas in District 82.

"I'm proud to have the endorsement of our local and state farm bureau."

The son of the Martin County Sheriff William Snyder, a former state representative, John Snyder says he's running on his record of military service and business ownership.

"I'm ready to get to work and combine that Marine Corps mindset and the business experience and roll my sleeves up and get to work on behalf of all of the constituents here in District 82."
