Hurricane Isaias Enroute to Florida Coast bringing Watches & Warnings

Hurricane Isaias is expected to pick up strength as it moves into Florida this weekend, before tracking up the East Coast as far north as New England next week.

A hurricane warning has been expanded northward to the Flagler/Volusia County Line in Florida, while the warning continues for a portion of Florida's East Coast, from Boca Raton northward.

A hurricane watch is in effect for portions of South Florida from Boca Raton to Hallendale County.

The National Hurricane Center's 2a advisory has Isaias (ees-ah-EE-ahs) with maximum sustained winds of 85 miles per hour and about 115 miles south-southeast of Nassau, Bahamas, moving northwest at 14 miles per hour.

Warnings are posted for some Floridians to expect dangerous storm surge, heavy winds, substantial rainfall and flooding throughout the weekend.

Governor Ron DeSantis signed an order on Friday and declared, "a state of emergency in every coastal county of Florida's east coast, from Miami-Dade to Nassau counties." Gov. DeSantis will hold an 8:30 a.m. press conference at the State Emergency Operations Center in Tallahassee.
