After Shaming by Jacksonville, St Augustine Beaches to Close

ST. AUGUSTINE -- After some shaming by the folks next door, officials in St. Johns County in northeast Florida, are officially closing their beaches in response to the COVID-19 pandemic.

St. Johns County administrator Hunter Conrad said in a statement that beachgoers "continue to ignore CC guidelines regarding crowd size and personal distancing. It follows recommendations by several agencies, including the sheriff and St. Augustine Beach police.

The closure takes effect Sunday (29th) at 6 a.m. and runs until further notice.

A spokesperson for the city of Jacksonville, which borders St. Johns County, called out officials by sending out tweets, one of which showed empty beaches in Duval County (Jacksonville) and crowded beaches across the line in St. Johns.
