Markeith Loyd testifies he was under attack and acted in self-defense.

Accused killer Markeith Loyd took the stand in his own defense in an Orlando courtroom Monday afternoon.

Lloyd is charged in the shooting death of his pregnant ex-girlfriend Sade Dixon. Loyd told the court he met Dixon on Facebook while looking for a woman he could have a family with.

"I wanted a family. I wanted a family. I wanted kids. I wanted my kids to be raised in a house with their mother and father," Loyd testified. "I didn't get a chance to raise my son and daughter. So I was taken out of their lives. I wanted that and I missed that."

Loyd, who couldn't raise his own children because he was sent away to prison on a drug conviction, said he wanted the baby Dixon was carrying. He also said he got angry with her because she smoked marijuana and ate meat while she was pregnant.

The night of the shooting Loyd testified that he felt he was under attack by Dixon and her brother and he acted in self-defense. The brother was also shot but survived.

The state rested after presenting testimony from medical examiner Sara Zydowicz who said Dixon was shot eight times including directly into the heart and that the gunshot wounds resulted in the death of the baby.

Loyd could face execution if found guilty in Dixon's slaying. He's scheduled to go on trial next year for the shooting death of Orlando police Lt. Debra Clayton.
