E-Scooters off to a rough start in Tampa

TAMPA -- Scooter rental operators in Tampa are trying to work through safety problems in their first few weeks of operation. Those include people driving them in car or bike lanes, illegally parking them, even getting into fights with bicycle riders.

A spokesperson for a scooter service run by Uber says safety is a top priority. Javi Correoso of Jump scooters says they have contact information printed on all of their scooters and urge people to report any that are placed where they shouldn't be, as well as any other bad behavior. Correoso says they can ban bad actors from using the Uber app to rent scooters.

Correoso says they're also using "street teams' to hand out helmets to e-scooter users. They're not required but are recommended.
