Retired Florida Deputy Kills His Family Before Taking His Own Life

The Hillsborough County Sherif's Office is mourning one of their own after a retired deputy killed his family and then took his own life while his fellow officers watched. 58-year-old Terry Strawn shot and killed his wife, Theresa, and his 6-year-old granddaughter, Londyn, before killing his 32-year-old daughter, Courtney, at her home.

After killing his daughter, Strawn used a police radio to call in his crimes and told the dispatcher he planned to kill himself near Plant City High School. A supervisor got on the radio tried to talk him down, while deputies rushed to the school.

When officers arrived, they found Strawn near the school and attempted to convince him not to take his own life. Unfortunately, they were unsuccessful and he shot himself with his service revolver as they watched in horror.

Officials said that Strawn alluded to health and financial problems during their conversations with him on the police radio and that they will look into that during their investigation.

Strawn was hired in 1991 and retired in 2017. He was working as a security officer at his granddaughter's elementary school.
