Over the hump

Your LOLVOD (Laugh Out Loud Video Of the Day). Which is cuter about 2 year old Mila and her story of the first day of pre-school? Her adorable voice...or that princess-y dress she's wearing??

Texas man alerts his neighbors when he sees their houses on fire, saving their lives and their pet’s too.

As Kevin Hayes pulled into his West Bexar County, Texas neighborhood, he saw black smoke and flames coming from a neighbor’s house, so he jumped out of his car and ran to help. He knocked on the door where the fire started, alerting resident Nakenya Portela-Bailey, so she and her three kids and two dogs could get out safely.

Once that family was out of danger, Hayes and another neighbor, Julian Felán, rushed to Sylvia and Eliseo Farias’ home where the fire had spread, to make sure they were okay. Eliseo answered the video doorbell from a remote location and asked them to grab his dog from the house. Thankfully, Felan is a former firefighter, so he knew how to break down the door and the two men ran through the smoke, found the dog and brought him outside.

Firefighters arrived shortly after that to put out the flames, but everyone was out of danger by then, thanks to their alert and brave neighbors. While others call them heroes, Hayes downplays his efforts. “I don’t think I should be considered a hero,” he says, “I’m just a concerned citizen.”

After accidentally shooting a nail into his heart, a man drove himself 12-miles to the hospital

  • A man in Wisconsin was building a fireplace frame when he accidentally shot himself in the heart with a nail gun
  • He said it "didn't really hurt" so he got in his truck and drove 12-miles to a hospital
  • He had to have open heart surgery but is now doing well

Doug Bergeson is one tough dude. The Peshtigo, Wisconsin man was working on a fireplace frame in a house he's building when he accidentally shot himself in the heart with a nail gun. Believe it or not, Bergeson says it "didn't really hurt."

"It just felt like it kind of stung me. And I looked down and I didn't see anything and I put my hand there and... That's not good," Bergeson remembers. "When I saw it moving with my heart, it's kind of like... I'm not going to get anything done today! I can see that already!"

Since the pain was manageable, he got in his truck and drove himself the 12-miles to the hospital. That's where Bergeson found out the three-and-a-half-inch nail had missed a main artery in his heart by the thickness of a piece of paper. He was rushed into open heart surgery and is now doing well and is back to work. He's also sure to be much more careful.

A woman eats 16-and-a-half pints of ice cream and sets new world record

  • A woman ate 16-and-a-half pints of ice cream in just six minutes
  • She now holds the world record for the most ice cream ever eaten at a competition eating contest
  • She has won the Nathan's Hot Dog Eating Contest for the past four years

Miki Sudo is probably still reeling from brain freeze. She is now the world record holder when it comes to eating ice cream. In case you missed it, she downed 16-and-a-half pints of ice cream in just six minutes.

Sudo won $2-thousand for her efforts and now gets to say she dethroned famous competitive eater Joey Chestnut, who had the previous world record after he ate 15 pints of vanilla ice cream in six minutes.

If Miki's name sounds familiar, that's because she's won the Nathan's Hot Dog Eating Contest for the past four years. In 2017, she shoveled down her personal best of 41 hot dogs.

  •  Guys! here's another great reason to eat your veggies!
  • A new study suggests folks smell like what they eat, and certain odors can attract or turn off the opposite sex
  • Women are more attracted to the smell of men who eat fruits and veggies, while they are turned off by guys who consume refined carbs, like bread and pasta
  • Big meat eaters had a more intense odor, but the smell didn’t particularly cause a big reaction either way in women

While men and women will spend lots of money on fancy perfumes and colognes to help attract the opposite sex, it turns out all anybody really has to do is watch what they eat.

In case you missed it, a new study suggests folks smell like what they eat, and certain odors can attract or turn off the opposite sex. For example, it turns out women are more attracted to the smell of men who eat fruits and veggies, while they are turned off by guys who consume refined carbs, like bread and pasta.

The study, out of Macquarie University in Australia, studied eating habits of a group of healthy men. They also judged the men’s skin using something called a spectrophotometer, which looks at hue of carotenoids, the plant pigments that are responsible for certain colored foods, which can indicate how much veggies and fruits are being eaten.

  • The men where then given new shirts to exercise in, and then those sweaty T-shirts were given to women to smell, and women consistently chose the guys who ate more veggies as the ones who smelled nicer. Interestingly, while big meat eaters had a more intense odor, the smell didn’t particularly cause a big reaction in women for the positive or negative.
